Campus Minister
The Reverend Dr. D. Darrell Woomer has been the campus minister of United Campus Ministry/Christians Open Minded since 2005. A native of Troy, Ohio, Darrell grew up in Portage, Pennsylvania.
He graduated from Juniata College (B.A.); Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (M.Div., Th.M.); and Duquesne University (M.A., Ph.D). He has also studied at United Theological Seminary, Case Western Reserve University, and Cleveland State University. In addition to his degrees in the areas of Spiritual Formation and Spirituality, Darrell is also a certified Minister of Music, with extensive experience in church music and organ.
Prior to Millersville, Darrell served as Chaplain at Lebanon Valley College, retiring at the end of July 2005. In addition to his outstanding record in the chaplaincy at LVC, Darrell, a United Methodist minister, has served as pastor in churches in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Darrell believes in student-developed and student-led ministries on campus. He feels that it is extremely important to find out what is happening on campus and to find out what religious needs are being met and which ones are not. It is out of this knowledge that UCM/COM can reach as many students as possible and grow into a thriving campus ministry at Millersville, and in his first years of serving as Campus Minister he has done just that! His passion for campus ministry has helped many students to find a comfortable place in which they can build in their faith away from home.
Darrell always impresses everyone with his warm, outgoing personality, his subtle but sharp sense of humor, and his ability to listen to and learn from each and every person hemeets. He has a strong desire to work with Millersville students, faculty, and staff, and to be a resource for those who are looking to develop their spirituality and leadership skills, no matter where they stand on their personal faith journey. He feels a special affinity with those who are asking questions about life and faith.
United Campus Ministry and Christians Open Minded invite you to meet and get to know Darrell Woomer. You will definitely be glad you did. He has regular office hours at Potter House and he will be seen at many other places around campus!
